Frequently Asked Questions
Is it possible to ask for an amount greater than $5,000?
Awards range from $500 to $5,000 and do not exceed amounts greater than $5,000. If you require more funding, we recommend securing matching grants, and other matching patrons and proposals.
How do I know how much to ask for? Should I ask for the entire amount we need?
Applicants should show a broader overall budget as well as specifics. You can ask for the entire amount, but depending on the proposal, asking a portion or up to half of your project budget might be more beneficial. We recommend applying for 50% or less of the commission fee for commissions.
How many awards are given?
The number and amount of awards will vary each season. They will be determined by the number and quality of the applications.
Why do you charge an application fee?
The application fees offset the cost of administration, processing the applications, adjudication, maintaining the site, and more.
What if I ask for funding for an ensemble type not listed in the ensemble Categories list?
That’s perfectly fine: indicate what the ensemble is in the Other box.
What if I receive an award and the project falls through?
If a project is canceled, award funding must be returned to Mostly Modern Projects in full.
What if I want to donate to the Paterson Prize?
We are grateful for any and all support towards the Paterson Prize. Please get in touch with us directly to discuss how much you would like to give. All donations go toward an endowed fund that enables the fund to continue into perpetuity and towards larger awards for the future.
